Incense has been used by humans for thousands of years.
Originally, incense was used for religious purposes - smudging, offering to the gods, purifying sacred places. The smoke carried people's prayers to the heavens and fed the spirits with its energy.
Over time, secular traditions of incense use developed in East Asia. It became an independent practice and part of the refined culture of the aristocracy, along with the tea ceremony, ikebana and calligraphy. Incense is seen as a path to harmony, contemplation, unity with oneself and the world around us.
Why might we use it now?
Firstly, incense helps to create a pleasant atmosphere. Its scent fills the room, calms the nervous system and relaxes. It is a great way to make a room more comfortable or to create a romantic atmosphere.
Secondly, incense is used in meditation. It is used in yoga, qigong and tea ceremonies. The scent helps you to concentrate and go deeper into your practice.
Thirdly, it is a wonderful decorative interior decoration. Beautiful sticks in elegant packaging look organic in any style. And watching the dance of the smoke is a truly breathtaking sight.
Fourthly, incense is often used as a gift. Unique, unusual and very tasty.
Fifth. It's delicious! The wonderful, unique flavour of real incense sticks gives us a unique experience. And immersing ourselves in contemplating the depth and beauty of the flavour is very interesting and soothing.
